Sweet Little Lies...

This is ludicrous, but also hilarious...

Check out this story at the Captains Quarters.

CrossWalk is here with the sound track.

Liars and Damned Liars...

The truth is often the first KIA in any political argument, as history shows us over and over again. Hitler's regime made infamous the Big Lie, something that was so outrageoulsy false that people thought it must true, for who would lie is something so obvious?

The communist parties of the various communist states following WWII did not hesitate to use this tactic, and we see it again today in various forms across the world.

However, Americans have always felt that the US was the exception to the rule. Our free press, supposedly objective and non-partisan, was our watchdog against such a tactic here.

As they say, Reality Bites!

In the Senate chamber yesterday, Sen. Harry Reid engaged in such a blatant and zealous use of the Big Lie is his arguments about the Senate Filibuster rule. Unknown to everyone in US government and Political science majors everwhere, the cloture vote (the vote to stop debate) is now an up/down vote for a Presidential nominee. We poor saps, and the Republicans are just too stupid to realize this.

Where, you may ask, are our Media watchdogs that should be taking him to task over this? Well, has aided and abetted the murder of the truth at every turn, in a blatant push of a anti-US and anti-Bush advocacy.

Human Events carries an excellent article on this here.

I believe an an American pundit once said "...there are Liars, and then there are Damned Liars". I know where I rank proliferators of the Big Lie...

No Respect, no self respect

All right, I admit it. I used to think highly of Sen. McCain and was looking forward to his Presidential run at one point. No Longer!!

During the last election, and in the last few months the McCain I thought I knew has disappeared, if he ever really existed. Is it desperation, or is this the real McCain?

In his actions, he has sought to subvert the Presidents role and programs, he has pandered to the leftist agenda, he has betrayed the needs of his own state even as it and the other border regions are besieged with illegal immigrants (stress the word "illegal").

He appears to have given up ever priniciple or moral fiber he never had in what appears to be a transparent attempt to be 'electable' by some idiot pollster's definition. Instead it makes him look weak and vascillating, blowing in whatever direction the trend winds blow. I wouldn't vote him for dog catcher now, having a high level of respect for dogs.

Where is the man who survived Vietnam? Is this what he always was?

Advise and Consent

OK, how stupid are we? Or conversely, those paragons of intellect, the occupiers of Senate seats?

Only a Democrat would think that a fillibuster was the constitutional definition of Advise and Consent. Going back to a slightly different spin on this, the up and down vote is Advise and Consent. However, the Senate, ever a collegial bunch along the lines of the former Politburo, put into place a non-parlimentary shenanigan to allow the minority to override the majority (the fillibuster).

It was never intended to destroy the true voting process of the entire senate and like a nuclear weapon, must be used with restraint. It is/was, in fact a privilige the Senate gave itself that is found no where else.

Along comes the current generation of Post Vietnam Democrats, who feel that advise/consent (or for that matter, democratic rule) means their way, or... their way. In statement that they might be wrong or in the minority or against the wishes of the majority of America/Americans is just proof of how right they are and how wrong everyone else is. This bunch would, in extremis, have no compunction about creating re-education camps if they could.

Back to the main point; having abused their self appointed privilige, astonishingly wiser heads are in the process of revoking it and putting the Senate back on a more parlimentary and constituional footing. Like spoiled children, the Dems are howling mad and in the process (in my opinion) further marginilizing themselves.

They can't really shut down the government since there are enough Republicans to make a quorum. However, they are stealing a tactic from the Texas Senate Democrats who sought to block re-districting by leaving the state (this is what is fueling the investigation of Delay in Texas). The question is how many Republicrats like McCain would side with the Dems.

Out of control...

I wasn't around to see/hear this, but The Anchoress is a livid as ever I've read her blog. And I cannot disagree. MSM/The 'Press' see their role not as a reporter, but now as an advocate of anything anti-US. It is not always overt, but like too much salt in the soup - it is always there.

If public backlash builds and results in sometime of outright restraint placed on the press, I believe that would be a tragedy and an ominous indicator for our future as a country. Yet, at the same time, MSM will have no one to blame but themselves.

With privilige and or power, comes a corresponding level of responsibility; you cannot have one without the other. Said another way, privilige is earned by showing a higher level of responsibility - it is not something that is an inherent right or that is owed to someone just because of who they are. This is the way, the tenents under which I was raised an taught and nothing I have seen has shown this to be in error. Far from it, some of the most egregious acts of injustice I've seen have been committed by people(s) who have forgotten or ignored the corresponding responsibility that went with the privilige they tried to hide behind.

Such is the situation with the Press/MSM today - they feel no responsibility, no connection to the consequences that result from their actions. They hide behind the phrase "just reporting" like a teenager, when if fact the press hasn't just reported on the news in modern History.

I don't pretend to know the answer, but I know where I would start. It might take a few days, but I believe a squadron of C-5's could get all the so called reporters into the Saudi desert within a few days. A liter a water each, and 'see ya!'. Let them explain to all those friendly folks "we're just reporters, we're not responsible". I think it will go over in a big way.

Of course the proper, legalistic method in our litigous society would be to charge Newsweek, its editorial staff, and the reporter with one or more of the following: negligent homicide with malice aforethought, manslaughter, reckless endagerment, negligence, TREASON, (going to the civil side), wrongful death. I see decades of class action litigation here, enough to hit MSM where it really counts - in the pocket book.

Can NewsWeek Spell Treason??

Looking at the official definition from various sources, I think it fits...
